System requirements and permissions needed for installation of the Nitro PDF Creator

During installation of Nitro PDF Pro for Windows, and during deployment of the Nitro PDF creator (which is used for all conversions), the installers write a series of .DLL files to the C:\Windows\System32 folder.

The Windows user profile used to install and the computer on which the installation is taking place must have write access and permission to modify files in the local
C:\Windows\System32 folder.

Sometimes, access to this folder is restricted by Group Policy settings in the environment.
There are also some security suites and anti-malware protection applications that can block access to this folder.
Some environmental settings can also cause the Windows Installer (MSIEXEC) to run with reduced privileges.

When access to this folder is restricted through any of the potential reasons above, some files may not be written or updated properly (or at al), and the Nitro PDF Creator will not get installed.

The software we have most commonly seen block the installation of the Nitro PDF Creator includes:
  • SentinelOne
  • Avecto Privilege Guard Client

In all of the above applications, the application itself can be shut down during installation of Nitro PDF Pro, or Nitro PDF Pro can be "Whitelisted" in the application to allow the installation to complete successfully.
